CAN / CAN'T (Present Ability & Permission)
Rule: Expresses what someone is able to do or allowed to do in the present.
Example: "I can drive a car. You can ask a question."
COULD / COULDN'T (Past Ability & Polite Requests)
Rule: Expresses general ability in the past or makes polite requests.
Example: "When I was 5, I could swim fast. Could you help me?"
MUST / MUST NOT (Strict Obligation & Prohibition)
Rule: Expresses strong personal obligation or strict rules/laws (must not = forbidden).
Example: "You must wear safety goggles. You must not smoke here."
HAVE TO / DON'T HAVE TO (External Necessity & Lack of Obligation)
Rule: Expresses external rules. "Don't have to" means it is not necessary (optional).
Example: "She has to wear a uniform. You don't have to pay."
SHOULD / SHOULDN'T (Advice & Recommendations)
Rule: Used to give friendly advice, suggestions, or recommendations.
Example: "You should drink more water every day."
